The Cissie Roughan Awards scheme was instituted in 1993 and honours the memory of the late Cissie Roughan, former member of Kilrush Town Council, and first woman to be elected to the town council. The awards are a way for Kilrush town council to show their awareness of the vital importance of community spirit and activity in the town, and of the positive contribution and effect of those who strive for the community spirit and welfare in a range of endeavours.
West Clare Triathlon Club were nominated for the award following the very successful sprint triathlon ‘Up The Creek 2013’ which was held on the 9th of June. West Clare Tri Club were extremely honoured to have been nominated for such an award. An awful lot of time, effort and hard work was put into organising the event and the club would like to thank race director Martin Busher and the race committee for this. It is great to see them get some recognition for all their efforts and to know the people of Kilrush appreciates the hard work. It is a positive start to 2014 and we are looking forward to another great year.
The West Clare Triathlon Club would like to thanks Kilrush Town Council for the nomination, and also thanks to everyone who helped make 2013 a brilliant and successful year for the club. We would also like to congratulate the overall winners of the Cissie Roughan award The Famine Commemoration Kilrush.
