4th March 2014

The West Clare Triathlon Club held the Wild West Duathlon in the seaside town of Kilkee on Sunday the 2nd of March 2014.

The challenge started with a 4K run, consisting of two laps up to the picturesque George’s Head. Then a chance to race on part of the infamous Hell of The West cycle route, the race then finished with one final lap of the run route.

The Weather stayed wet and wild throughout the race, resulting in difficult conditions and a very tough cycle route. That didn’t stop the brave triathletes from getting out and giving it their all.

Congratulations to Rory Sexton overall winner of this years race. He was closely followed by Derek Flanagan and West Clare’s own Dermot Galvin took 3rd place. In the womens race Zelma Power was 1st over the line with an excellent time of 1:16:25. And the winners of the relay event was West Clare’s Meabh Chambers and Paul Griffin.
